Watering Directions for Installation

  • Twice daily for 1½ hours each time for seven (7) days
  • 1½ hours 1 time a day for 2nd week or until rooted in

We cannot stress the importance of following the watering directions at installation.

How to tell when it is rooted in

Gently tug up a corner of a piece. If it lifts freely, the roots have not knitted into the soil yet — stay on the schedule above. When it resists and feels anchored, it is rooted in and you can switch to the deep-soaking schedule below.

Water Needs: After It Is Rooted In

Low to medium. Apply at least 1" of water as a deep soaking every 5 – 7 days to encourage a deep, healthy root system during dry or hot periods. Avoid frequent shallow watering that results in shallow roots, permitting weed germination and growth.

Mowing & Thatching

Optimum mowing height 1½ – 2½" allowing the clippings from frequent mowing to remain on the lawn. Never remove more than 1/3 of the shoot growth at one mowing. Fertilize and water well after cutting.

Soil & Fertilizer Needs

Use a complete fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphate, potassium in the spring & fall. Apply nitrogen at the rate of 2 – 4 lbs. per 1000 square feet of lawn annually. You can also add ½ – 1 lb. nitrogen per 1000 square feet at monthly intervals during the growing season. Recommend using a pre and post emergence herbicide in fall & spring. Do not apply earlier than four weeks after the installation of the sod.

We highly recommend using a lawn care professional for weed control and fertilization.
